Maryland to tax greenhouse orchids under sales measure
Annapolis March 9. A bill would subject greenhouse orchids and related floral products to Maryland sales tax. Walter E. Kennedy said the move clarifies a two year old law and ends exemptions claimed by some nurseries who grow their own plants. The measure was introduced at the Comptroller's request by Senate President Byrnes and sponsored by Byrnes and Black. Also noted is a separate proposal to reshuffle the State Accident Fund commissioners, abolish the chair salary of 3000 dollars and cut other commissioners' pay.
