Shipping losses at sea lowest since U S entry into war

Allied ship losses in February hit a low not seen since the United States entered the war the Office of War Information reported. More enemy submarines were destroyed than merchant vessels sunk in the Atlantic battle as the OWI issued its monthly communique under Roosevelt and Churchill. The report notes a slight increase in U boats sunk from January to February. In Washington officials said the United States has appealed to neutral Eire to sever ties with Germany though the State Department declined to discuss the matter. The six northern Irish counties have joined the war effort with Allied bases established while Eire remains neutral. Also mentioned is a push to curb German agents in other neutrals.
