Judge rules on shoplifting cases in Frederick County court
Frederick County District Court Judge Mary Ann Stepler heard several shoplifting cases on Thursday. Ramsey, 29, of Banksia Drive, was found not guilty of theft and assault at Sears last Oct 23 after prosecutors failed to prove theft beyond a reasonable doubt. Sears employees described spotting him with a socket wrench set under his jacket and fleeing with a child into a truck, but he claimed he was in Sears for an acetylene torch and had no need for the tool. He testified he ran due to possessing marijuana. His wife testified she later picked him up at a bar. Also, Abn J Shumaker, 18, of Howard Chapel Road, Damascus, was placed on probation before judgment for shoplifting items valued at $825.6 from Gee Bee on Dec 13, with 75 hours of community service and other conditions.
