A New York County grand jury indicted author Clifford Irving, his wife Edith, and aide Richard Suskind on grand larceny conspiracy and forgery charges over Irvings disputed Howard Hughes autobiography. Separate counts accuse Irving and Suskind of perjury in the second degree.
In Cumberland Maryland and surrounding counties 82 firms pledged 352 jobs for disadvantaged persons and Vietnam era veterans as part of NABs regional job development drive. Dowell of Kelly-Springfield Tire chaired the event honoring Lemoine of American Optical and Hise of State Farm for their loaned executive work.
The mercury fell to 19 degrees with snow in mountainous areas and cold, windy conditions. Expect highs in the low 30s and overnight lows in the 20s to teens as northerly winds persist. A slight warmup near freezing is anticipated Friday and the weekend forecast remains cold and dry with traces of precipitation recorded March totals at .53 inch.
Leaders of the Frederick County Teachers Association voted 29 to 6 not to accept the board of education proposal with 18 abstentions. A strike seems unlikely as members plan further discussion and a possible vote Monday while warnings about losing contract protections were issued.
The Frederick County Board of Education asserts it negotiates teachers contract in good faith and will seek funding. If County Commissioners cut funds, renegotiations may occur. The board reserves the right to decide in the public interest until state level decisions change the pattern of power balance.
Frederick County commissioners announced they will no longer permit the 25 member Special Uniformed Deputies Association to police private events under county sponsorship. The county will finance the deputies and assume private duties but requires the deputies to form a separate organization by March 6. A delegation indicated plans to seek governor awarded special police commissions, a process expected to take over a month.

New York traders saw a tentative session with stocks wavering after a morning of limited moves. Across sectors and indices, prices showed a blend of gains and losses as investors waited for clearer guidance.
Frederick County prepares to open Prospect Hall as an independent inter denominational day school beginning 1972 73. St John’s High will be renamed Prospect Hall run by a lay board, open to all faiths with three curriculums and tuition set at 500. Enrollment capped at 200 to maintain a 12 to 1 ratio. Seminary teachers from Mt St Mary’s will teach theology. Over 100 students already enrolled and recruitment underway.
An out of state man Benjamin L Stearns 71 Pomona Calif was arrested in the Francis Scott Key Hotel lobby for carrying a concealed pistol in a holster. Major Charles V Main and Pvt James Bohrer seized a loaded pistol from his hotel room and he is held on 1060 bail awaiting March 14 District Court hearing. Mrs Agnew arrived about an hour after the arrest and was the guest of honor at a Red Cross luncheon.
Mrs. Spiro Agnew drew a record 180 attendees to the Frederick Red Cross Chapter 55th anniversary luncheon at the Francis Scott Key Hotel. She noted the chapter's shared milestone with its Washington unit and thanked volunteers while describing recent efforts and upcoming campaign travels.
