Fire prevention talk by state fire marshal at Sertoma dinner

State Fire Marshal James Robertson spoke to the Frederick Sertoma Club at Betty's Restaurant on fire prevention arson investigation and Frederick County's volunteer fire history. He credited smoke detectors with early warnings that saved life limb and property statewide.

Carroll Manor Grange hears reports and plans events

At Eugene Mills home the Carroll Manor Grange held its monthly meeting with 13 members present. Donna Mills reported profits from Christmas fruitcakes and candy, announced a donated National Grange songbook to the Maryland School for the Deaf 4 H Club, and a March of Dimes donation in the Women's Activities name. Five Sewing Contest classes were described and entry forms offered, with contact for Mrs. Mills. Donations of canned goods were tallied, membership applications noted, and plans discussed to honor 25 year members and an unsung hero award. Additional safety information and emergency procedures were shared, and prospects for visiting prospective members were announced. The next meeting is March 13 at the Stups.

Frederick High School Band to perform at Weinberg Center

The Frederick High School Band will present the first band concert at the Weinberg Center on March 15 at 8 p.m. Tickets cost 2 dollars for adults, 1 dollar for students, seniors admitted free, available in advance from the Red Barn or by calling Mike Main at 662-2206. Tickets also sold at the door starting 7 p.m.
