Earth Day Event Planned by Frederick Committee
The Frederick Earth Day committee met at the Community Foundation to finalize plans for Earth Day in Baker Park on April 22. Co sponsored by Frederick Jaycees and Catoctin Sierra Club the event will feature booths speakers band music and activities focused on recycling organic farming and environmental education with readings and nature walks. The next organizational meeting is set for March 29 at 7 30 p m at 106 W Second Street.

County approves zoning changes at Thurmont and Kemptown edges
Frederick County Commissioners rezoned two areas and limited housing growth. The Myers property on North Franklinville Road near U.S. 15 shifted from agricultural to limited industrial, while 96.1 acres on Bartholows Road moved to R-1 low density housing and 23.9 acres to conservation. The west side parcel rezoning was withdrawn.

Real estate signs spark zoning violation debate in New Market
At a planning commission meeting in New Market residents complained about about 14 directional real estate signs placed within town limits but directing to outside properties. Chair Susan Wilson urged action to investigate origins while members noted signs violate the town ordinance. Signs clustered near Md 144 Boyer's Mill Rd and Dorchester Rd intersections, some on Michael Sponseller properties. The commission referred cases to county officials for enforcement.
