Agrifuture essay winner from Union Bridge is Phil Arnold

Phil Arnold son of Mr and Mrs Jay Arnold of Union Bridge won the Knott and Geisbert sponsored Agrifuture Fair essay contest at Urbana The junior at Singanore High School breeds and shows sheep His winning piece envisions the Agrivehicle and future farming energy including solar powered steam turbine systems for tractors with on board minicomputers and hydrogen fusion energy storage The contest drew 47 entries from Frederick Walkersville Singanore and Catoctin High Schools with Stull Dinkle Cramer honored in other places and prizes of 100 50 and 20 for first through third

Estate Planning Seminar March 21 at Jefferson Center

The Frederick County Chamber of Commerce sponsors the second annual Estate Planning seminar on Tuesday March 21 at the Jefferson Community Center starting 9 30 a.m. The panel led by attorney W Jerome Offutt includes a bank planning officer an insurance representative and a CPA. The public is invited to attend from 9 30 a.m. to 2 30 p.m. Lunch is provided by the Johnsville Boys 4 H Club. Reservations may be made through the Chamber.

Thurmont Grange Wins State Ag Safety Award

Thurmont Grange received Maryland Agricultural Health and Safety Federation top safety honor for 1977 at a Feb 23 banquet hosted at the University of Maryland Baltimore County campus. The Grange highlighted farm safety projects from 1977 including a safety theme float, a Thurmont Emmitsburg show safety booth, and distribution of safety pamphlets and emergency resources.
