Braddock Heights Association elects officers and adopts by laws

Braddock Heights Community Association met at the Braddock Heights Fire Hall on Monday March 6 and adopted new by laws while electing officers to fill unexpired terms. The meeting followed a membership vote upholding the president’s charge that the previous election was unconstitutional for improper notice.

Virginia lawmakers kill Northern Virginia sales tax hike

In Richmond on Monday the House of Delegates committee killed a proposal to raise the Northern Virginia sales tax by one cent to fund Metrorail and transit operating costs. The vote leaves a four percent gasoline tax as the only alternative, with Delegate Warren Stambaugh expressing strong dismay at the outcome.

White House warns of penalties if union defies court orders

White House officials say penalties could hit both local and national union treasuries if court orders are defied. The plan also suggests miners might return to work if higher wages offered by the Bituminous Coal Operators Association are accepted, following a rejected contract over the weekend. In Frederick, the City Ministerial Association will organize and elect officers at a noon luncheon on Tuesday March 14 at All-Saints Episcopal Church Parish Hall. Interim chairman Rev. Theodore E. Haas notes fourteen churches are represented and the group formed Feb 1 for joint witness and cooperative activities.
