A Baltimore truck driver Arthur Gordon Cooper 27 of 1139 Butus Avenue burned to death in the cab after his tractor trailer crashed into the Monocacy bridge at Bridgeport east of Emmteburg. Firemen could not save the vehicle belonging to Southern Motors Transport Co. State Trooper Brown said Cooper, driving at high speed, may have slowed for the bridge and the trailer jackknifed, the tractor crashing into the bridge wall and the rig bursting into flames. The bridge was not seriously damaged as investigators including Deputy Medical Examiner and Trooper Dashong worked the scene.
