Massachusetts Court rules foul ball injuries bear risk to spectators
Massachusetts Supreme Court held that spectators assume the inherent risks of baseball and cannot recover damages for being hit by a foul ball. The ruling, in a suit by Mrs. Lillian Shaw against the Boston American League club after a 1942 incident, states that attending a game carries known hazards and liability lies with the spectator rather than the park operator.
