Seven Witnesses At Murder Trial In 19th Century Case
Seven witnesses testified in a murder trial before Chief Judge Hammond Urner and John 5 Newman. Grant Allen and Marshall Allen, colored youths about 19 and 20, were accused of fatally shooting Ridgely Holland near Hope Hill on November 13. The courtroom was crowded as both defendants faced charges, with plea of self defense anticipated by the defense.
