FAA training jet used as airlimo scandal at FAA
Chairman Skinner frequently uses the Gulfstream G IV jet owned by the FAA for personal transport and to shuttle lawmakers and aides. While the plane is meant for training inspectors and crash investigators, records show trips to Paris, Denver, and London with politicians and staff. Auditors note waivers on refresher flights due to limited training planes, and critics say the cost and misuse erode safety goals. The jet’s lavish features and glass cockpit technology highlight gaps in training and oversight. Wives and staffers often traveled, with Lehman and Lautenberg praised for enabling the arrangement through committees.
