Officials gathered for the ceremony marking the opening of Carroll County's new 18 million headquarters library on Main Street Westminster. Public library director Martha M Makosky noted the move from the crowded Davis library to a modern 40 000 square foot facility with 120 000 books and computer aided systems. Volunteers moved thousands of books last Saturday with about 500 participants. The library features a bookmobile garage and future 13 000 square feet of expansion with meeting rooms and automated technology.

Move surprises administration in Tehran hostages shift

Officials said the move could alter the hostage release plan but noted Khoemeini and Iranian authorities require parliamentary approval, possibly delaying any release until May. Secretary Vance prepared public reaction plans as the UN fact finding commission lagged, while Saunders urged patience and warned on sanctions policy.
