Recollections Of 60 Years Of Bicycle Trips Narrated
Fred M. Sanborn of Baltimore recalls 1890s bicycle clubs and century runs requiring 100 miles with mile marks witnessed by a local shopkeeper. He recalls crushed stone roads to Frederick, a two day 17 hour New York to Chicago race, and a 1 hour 16 minute City Hall to Capitol to Baltimore run with milk as the sole refreshment. The piece ties to Frederick Bicycle Club history and era racers including Schmidt Pampel Markey Lambright and others amid a late 19th century bicycle boom.
