State may face shortage of underground water
Maryland may face a shortage of underground water unless rainfall increases this spring. An expert warned that wells statewide have not recovered from last year's drought and dairy farmers may soon face water scarcity. Meteorologist Weeks noted last year’s rainfall was well below normal, with January and February deficits. Kemp of the Agricultural Experiment Station said near surface water is sufficient for crops if drought does not recur, but deeper aquifers remain unreplenished.
