Austrian Machinist Survives Rare Hip Cancer Operation
In Philadelphia on March 6 an Austrian machinist aged 35 endured a rare three hour surgery by Dr. W W Keen to remove cancer from the hip area. One leg and nearly half the body were cut away while saline injections kept him alive. The operation, the 14th of its kind, drew many doctors as two hundred knives were employed and major arteries were severed.
