Bus Stop Kids Promote School Attendance in Frederick County
The Bus Stop Kids puppet show created by Hon Johnston and expanded by Visual and Performing Arts High School uses Sesame Street style skits to teach kindergartners to third graders that daily attendance matters. The program, featuring characters Roger Deirdre Stan and Celeste, emphasizes early intervention and honesty about illness while tying attendance to school activities and sports, as Frederick County schools target higher overall attendance after achieving over 95 percent in elementary and around 90 percent in high schools.
