Vincent gives talks glimmer of hope in baseball talks

New York AP reports Fay Vincent, commissioner, hosts evening chats signaling potential progress with the players union as negotiations resume during spring training. Fehr says movement started with Vincent, though key issues remain: arbitration eligibility, roster size, benefit plans, minimum salary, and collusion language. Opening day likely delayed without a week’s end deal. The piece recalls Vincent's rise from deputy to commissioner after Giamatti and notes his mixed stance and connections to politics.
