Sludge panel nears report in Frederick County
Frederick County Sludge Task Force nears final recommendations after seven months of discussion on sludge management liability and education for landowners. A final meeting is set for March 31 before presenting near-final drafts to county commissioners for review and public hearings. The panel voted to hold farmers blameless for environmental pollution from sludge and urged testing wells on treated sites and adjoining land. Paul Spurrier noted a General Assembly bill to empower counties with sludge regulations faces slim chances this year due to opposition to fee bills.
