Lewis to War Labor Board Faces Packed Court Critique

Scranton March 3 Lewis L Lewis president of the United Mine Workers denounced the War Labor Board as a packed court and signaled possible refusal to plead miners wage demands. He urged a wage increase for anthracite and bituminous workers and argued for a hearing before a nonpacked tribunal while criticizing government inflation policies and cost plus profit. He skirted a strike question and urged production continuity pending bargaining. The address ended with a call to ensure miners receive a proper hearing. Also a notice from the Interior Department urging fishermen to use the entire catch for food under wartime needs.
