Aldermen debate air raid siren plan and city measures

The Board of Aldermen discussed three proposals to place 11 air raid sirens in the city, costing about 605 dollars with 27.75 dollars monthly maintenance, and two alternatives that would disable the police call box system. Action was postponed pending a mayoral conference. Drafts to amend the Police Merit System and retirement pay for fire drivers were also slowed, with urgency to reach the Legislature noted. The board approved sewer and garden actions and discussed salary adjustments and tax interest rebates, while balloon news from Cumberland reported a note found in Maine with travel details.
