Urbana PUD faces big growth debate among Frederick County Commissioners
Frederick County Commissioners weighed the Urbana planned unit development described as a 2000 pound gorilla. They outlined preferred growth, considering a 1850 acre, 6700 home PUD that could house about 19000 people, dwarf Urbana’s current village. Officials warned growth offers sprawl risk but supporters argued it channels 2000 new homes annually into Urbana to curb wider county expansion. The vote on PUD size and related rezoning requests from 12 nearby properties is scheduled later this month.
