Stewart Indicted by U S Grand Jury
Washington March 2 The pending Teapot Dome related action led to an indictment of Robert Woodward chairman of Standard Oil of Indiana for refusing to answer Senate committee questions. Stewart faced one count for each refusal, alleging violation of subpoenas and failure to testify about profits tied to the Liberty bond scheme and Continental Trading Camp. A warrant was issued for his arrest, with arraignment in Chicago and later appearance before the District of Columbia Supreme Court. Christopher Sholes, inventor of the typewriter, is also noted.
