Policyholders Move for Mutual Life Reform Led by Stuyvesant Fish
Stuyvesant Fish, president of the Illinois Central railroad, plans to head a policyholders’ movement in the Mutual Life Insurance Company for independent investigation and reform. A committee of policyholders across the United States and Europe is to be formed, operating separately from the governors and Lawson committees, and will demand a thorough investigation of the company. Separately, Wesleyan University’s Old College dormitory was destroyed by fire, causing substantial losses, and a building collapse in Cleveland, Ohio, killed one and injured another. President Roosevelt asked Congress for 100000 to fund U.S. delegates to the Pan American congress in Rio de Janeiro next spring.
