Budget deal hints at property tax rise and open space shifts
Maryland lawmakers weigh higher property taxes to fund Hughes Bay cleanup and a $60 million public schools aid package while transferring $18 million from open space and $8 million from the transportation trust. Critics warn that combining tax hikes with open space withdrawals burdens homeowners. Leaders argue the compromise preserves the AAA bond rating and broad goals amid a $32.3 million gap.
