PE aims to soothe fears over 230 kv line near Damascus
Residents of Clarksburg Damascus and Mount Airy packed S Anne’s Episcopal Church in Montgomery County for a meeting about Potomac Edison plans to build a 15 mile 230 kV line connecting Clarksburg Damascus and Mount Airy substations. PE officials said the 11.5 million project relieves the 34.5 kV line and supports growth, with construction possible this spring and completion by fall. Authority actions include a Montgomery County zoning hearing April 5 for a special exception. opponents cited radio TV interference and tree clearing. The utility defended safety and feasibility of above ground installation and herbicide use, noting EPA WHO studies deem health risks negligible.
