Bicentennial lessons and the nation’s mixed mood
John Warner, head of the American Revolution Bicentennial Administration since 1974, travels the country urging reflection on the first two centuries. He notes blacks and American Indians feel sidelined, warns of dictation fueled by office machinery, and urges practical energy recycling as waste grows in cities like New York. The ARBA lacks enforcement power but supports state and local observances as Americans rally behind a shared heritage.

Electric siren tested at Junior Steam Fire Engine House
An automatic electric siren from Wie Federal Electric Company was tested yesterday at the Junior Steam Fire Engine Company house. Installed by Woodward and Munshower, it replaces a bell in service over 50 years. The device runs 2 to 10 minutes, volumes audible up to two miles in poor weather and six to eight miles clear, mounted outside the tower with a metal screen. Philip Childs named local manager for Potomac Edison in Brunswick, effective March 1.
