Cumberland Md March 1 Seventy one miners were trapped by an explosion at the Kempton mine of the Davis Coal and Coke company near Fairfax W Va Two dozen bodies have been recovered and one more may be found bringing fatalities to thirteen Most workers escaped or were rescued as rescue parties moved in The mine in Garrett county Md is a 430 foot shaft with seven to eight miles of passages Modern equipment and cages aided rescues delayed by coal falls No identification yet for the dead or injured and the mine operates at about 2000 tons daily.
