Japan beetle stations to be set up in Frederick county towns

Japanese beetle checking stations are being established in Frederick and five county towns this year. One hundred twenty traps will be placed, with 20 at each station at Baker Park Frederick and at Burkittsville Creagerstown Emmitsburg Jefferson and Urbana. Leasing stations open at local hardware and supply stores for 30 cents to lease two years. Traps are not returned after the lease. aim is yearly use.

New Rent Control Act Goes Into Effect At Midnight

Washington June 30 The new rent control law takes effect tonight as the Federal rent chief outlines changes to tighten compliance and correct flaws while preserving major provisions of the existing act until December 31 1950. Localities may extend controls to June 30 1951 if desired.

Buckeystown residents appeal license transfer ruling

A Buckeystown district group filed an appeal in the Circuit Court challenging County License Commissioner G. Cleveland Trout June 23 order approving M. R. and E. G. Kerrigans transfer of a Point of Rocks license from Class B on sale beer to Class A off sale beer wine and liquor. Objectors argue lack of in person protest and that the transfer is unnecessary. The appeal names plaintiffs and attorneys and asserts the decision was arbitrary and against public interest.

Pittsburgh Milk Strike Ends After Three Weeks

Pittsburgh ends a three week milk strike after nearly 3,000 AFL members vote to accept a new contract. Regular deliveries resume tomorrow to Pittsburgh and six nearby counties Beaver Butler Fayette Greene Lawrence and Washington. Ice cream delivery begins today with a 24 hour lead time to process milk from farms. The union Local 205 AFL Milk and Ice Cream Salesmen and Dairy Employers kept emergency deliveries for physician certified homes hospitals and institutions. Tree Surgeon Inspecting Frederi ck City Parks Trees

A tree surgeon has been inspecting trees in Freder ick's parks and city areas. Mayor Elmer F. Munshower said several trees will require cutting due to disease, while most trees passed the test. A branch may need removal in front of Evangelical Lutheran church amid discussions. the city has no plan to remove the entire tree. Congregation members split on removing the whole tree. A citywide tree spraying program has been ongoing for weeks.

New Theater On Route 340 Near Frederick

Construction started last week on a drive in theater on Route 40 about two miles south of Frederick. Paul B. Whitacre of Glengarry West Virginia builds it as the second theater in the Frederick area. Arthur B Lambert owns the farm site and has leased it to Whitacre for ten years. Opening was tentatively set for July 4 but may slip. The theater will seat 400 to 500 vehicles on the highway toward Fongaville.
