Frederick and Frederick county endure a ten day heat wave with no relief. Forty two livestock horses and cattle died, many stricken in fields, while harvest is delayed and corn shows signs of damage. Human deaths reach four as drought worsens. Water supplies tested as Singapore pumping station steps up output.
City Engineer Maxwell announced daily street showers for children beginning Monday morning. Showers will run from 9 to 4:45 with police present to maintain order. Water cannons and water wagons will travel streets from Seventh to West Patrick with scheduled stops at All Saints and McMurray, Madison, and other blocks. Pools at Braddock Heights and local pools see heavy use amid heat wave as residents seek relief.
Washington dispatch reports Lou Gehrig, unfit earlier, will rejoin the New York Yankees for today’s exhibition against Washington. He has appeared in over 1,400 consecutive regular games and is set to play after officials announced he is back in condition.
Five men raided Merchants National Bank in South Bend Indiana. Patrolman Howard Wenger was killed as the robbers fled. A suspect named John Dillinger was identified by a detective during the incident. Loot amount not yet determined. In a separate dispatch, French reports note a Warsaw bound flight of the Lukasz and Janus brothers using a non stop service from Brook and line to the Atlantic coast. They planned to continue to Warsaw for refueling or fly to Paris Le Bourget Field if fuel runs short.
New York date June 30 The stock market moved into Federal control with little fanfare as prices stayed steady and trading slowed to the slowest pace in ten years. Transfers about 180000 shares. bellwether grains offered no clear direction while cotton rose modestly and bonds remained quiet. The dollar opened at 3.0475 francs or foreign exchange terms remained firm.
Telegram from Hugh S. Johnson to NRA officials accuses Harriman Hosiery executives of orchestrating the kidnapping of Fred G. Es, head of the American Federation of Hosiery Workers. The incident saw the victim seized at noon, driven out of town, and later released. Harriman attorney Hannah suggests a possible return to Kingston.

The Evangelical Reformed Bible School held closing exercises Friday morning after a two week term with forty five pupils. Miss DeLashmoutt led the Primary department and Miss Partington the Junior assisted by Miss Elizabeth Robert. Ice cream and cookies preceded the program featuring songs verses prayers play and pageants. Perfect attendance listed for many named boys and girls in both departments.
Virg Eaton, a well known local coal salesman, was struck by a front end truck on North Market Street Thursday afternoon. He lapsed into unconsciousness Friday evening and remained so at Frederick City Hospital suffering from multiple injuries. No action was taken against Glenn A. Stone, Jefferson operator, pending outcome of the accident. Stone reportedly tried to stop the truck as Eaton stepped before it. wheel marks indicate the place of impact. Star Poke leads the investigation.
Robert L. Hill of Columbia, Mass. will lead Rotary International for next year. Elected at Detroit, he succeeds John Nelson and will direct Rotary clubs in 60 countries until the 1933 convention in Montreal.
The Frederick Iron and Steel Company announces a reduction of its capital stock by twenty thousand dollars. The adjustment alters the company’s equity structure without altering its name or primary operations.
Articles filed in court today show four concerns formed and a fifth amended. Authorized capitals include 65,900 dollars for three, a 20,000 dollar reduction for another.
