First Maryland gas chamber execution ends era
Eddie Lee Daniels was executed by gas in Maryland for the 307 holdup and murder at a Silver Spring car wash. He was strapped in, the gas released at 10 10 p m, and pronounced dead at 10 23 p m. Governor McKeldin denied clemency saying no mitigating facts existed. Daniels conviction followed a Montgomery County jury verdict and upheld on appeal.
