A Senate committee approved a bill mandating no fault automobile insurance for all drivers. The measure, saying it could save up to 1 billion dollars annually in premium payments, is backed by Senator Warren G. and aims to standardize coverage across the country.
Lt Gov Blair Lee will lead dignitaries at Schifferstadt Visitors Information Center and Museum Shop grand opening sponsored by Frederick County Chamber of Commerce Tourism Division. President Ford is anticipated to sign a bill to expand GNMA mortgage financing for thousands of moderate income homebuyers by boosting purchase authority by 10 billion dollars. Senate approval followed a compromise on points limits with 4 percent caps tied to GNMA and a July 1 1976 sunset.
President Ford urged a four year delay until 1981 for tougher auto exhaust rules amid health concerns over catalytic converters. The badly decomposed body of 14 year old Paul John Lentz of 20 Duke Street Rockville was identified by dental records. He disappeared June 18 after leaving home to go to a bowling center. An autopsy showed he was murdered with a knife and a knife was found at the scene. Investigators from Montgomery County Police and Maryland State Police continued the inquiry with Detective McCarty and Corporal Wolfe leading the case.
Maryland Blue Cross asks the Insurance Commission for a 39 percent rate increase for 72 000 non group subscribers. The change, proposed to take effect September 1, would apply to standard community preferred student and company programs. The spokesman noted about 10 percent of policyholders fall into those categories.
