Soft drink supply unlikely to meet wartime demand
Baltimore, June 27. Joseph Lapides warns that soft drink makers will not fill more than half of summer demand from war factories despite a 12.5 percent sugar ration increase. He notes industry now uses 80 percent of 1941 sugar allotment, but hot plant needs are higher and full shipyard orders could cut retail availability to under 56 percent. Bottled beverages are consumed in war plants at over two billion bottles annually.
