Welsh hillside folly hosts Fox film crew in 1937
In Penrhyndeudreath Wales the Inn of the Sixth Happiness production by 20th Century Fox shoots on location. Ingrid Bergman directs as crowds of 2000 Chinese extras, cranes, and CinemaScope cameras fill the remote valley. Local Welsh residents note the allure and oddities of Hollywood glamour invading their hills. A 1924 cartridge scare and a 60 cent China trip ad add quirky notes to the scene. An Italian castle style hotel serves as the base for the 90 day completion plan.
