Frederick Presbyterian Calls Rev W M Weaver as Pastor
At a Sunday meeting the Frederick Presbyterian congregation unanimously voted to call Rev. W Meryal Weaver of York County PA as pastor effective in September. Weaver trained at Temple University and Princeton Theological Seminary graduating in 1938. The church will be 158 years old in September and celebrated the forty ninth anniversary of Rev Dr Webler’s ordination.

Takeoff Of Plane Frightens Horses Near Middletown Farm
David H. Young, noted farmer and sole airplane owner in the valley, tried a takeoff in a hayfield on George F. Zecher’s farm near Burkittsville. Horses hitched to a wagon and hayloader panicked, ran across the field, crashing into a hay rake but no injuries or serious damage to animals occurred. the wagon tongue broke and the plane landed safely.

CLASS MEETING HELD BY LEWISTOWN GOLDEN THREADS
The Golden Threads Class of the Lewistown Methodist church met at Mrs. Alva Michael's home on Monday evening. Mrs. Alva Rice opened with a song, eight members and three visitors answered roll. Battie Michael led the program with poems and readings by Madaline Rice Dorothy Gilbert Rath Rice and Charlotte Rice. Ruth Rice led recreation. Ada Rice won a prize Hattie Michael the guess box. A new member Madaline Rice was welcomed. An outing was planned for Saturday July 16 in Mrs Miller's woods. Refreshments were served by the hostesses.

Pump House at Orchard Destroyed by Fire
Firefighters connected to a 1500 gallon tank to combat a blaze at the BE D. McCain orchard. A pump house and much orchard equipment were lost. Origin undetermined though lightning was suspected. Insured. The fire, not found until after 10 PM, followed a stormy night walk by Mr and Mrs McCain. The pump house sits in the orchard.

Fire at Orchard Damages Equipment and Tank
Fire destroyed an orchard and nearly all its spraying equipment and materials. Mr McCain feared total loss as the water tank supplying the orchard was engulfed. Firefighters connected a water line from a neighboring house to extinguish the blaze. A large gasoline tank at the site also ignited briefly before being put out without serious damage.

Three people were jailed by city police over the weekend on minor charges for drunkenness and indecent exposure. Washington reports that air conditioning engineers uncovered a 1790 committee report on a loan request by John F Amelung of Frederick County for 8000 dollars. Rep Daniel Carroll of Maryland led the inquiry. the loan was recommended but defeated in the House after one day's debate. Also noted was an earlier petition to exempt workers from a duty at his glass factory in New Jemain.

Out Of Cut Short Time Man Arrested In Brunswick
A Brunswick man, Howard Shrader, 39, was arrested early Sunday for entering the garage of PL W. Gaither on Petersville Road and looting a candy vending machine. Officers said Shrader, recently released from the House of Correction, denied entering the garage but was found with items believed stolen from Gaither’s garage. He had served an eight month term for drunken driving and resisting arrest.

Huge Aerial Battle Over Nanchang Reported
Shanghai June 26 a clash over Nanchang pitted Japanese warplanes against Chinese fighters in a large air battle. Japanese communiques claimed 33 to 36 Chinese planes shot down and three Japanese planes lost, with further aerial exchanges and a mass bombardment of the airfield. Chinese reports acknowledged losses but provided fewer figures, noting several attackers downed and two Chinese planes destroyed on the ground.
