Montgomery boosts minority teacher hiring efforts
A Montgomery County report to the school board shows 13.5 percent of new teachers for 1999-90 were minorities, with overall minority representation in the teaching staff dipping slightly. It details expanded recruitment for 1990-91 across 21 states plus DC, 12 historically Black colleges, four colleges with high Hispanic populations and five with strong Asian enrollments, and notes limited minority candidate pools and high living costs as barriers.

Frederick considers temporary blocks on Shookstown Road bridge
Frederick officials plan temporary barricades on both sides of the one lane bridge over Carroll Creek to curb shortcut traffic from Montevue Lane to Rosemont Avenue. A sign would restrict eastbound Shookstown traffic beyond Meadowdale Lane to local traffic only, with possible future cul de sacs or permanent blocks.
