Senate Backs Resolution Against International Communism
Washington June 25 The Senate adopted a resolution declaring it is the sense of Congress to reaffirm support for the Caracas declaration and oppose interference by the international Communist movement in Western Hemisphere affairs. The measure, introduced by Sen Lyndon Johnson and approved unanimously by the Foreign Relations Committee, aims to bolster actions by the Organization of American States in Guatemala and elsewhere. The House is expected to act soon. In a separate measure, the House Agriculture Committee approved a one year extension of fixed farm price supports but struck out two year protections for cotton and corn, signaling administration preference for flexible supports and parity adjustments. Chairman Hope predicted passage as the best possible bill for agriculture.
