Adenauer urges quick West German rearmament push
Chancellor Konrad Adenauer appealed to Free Democrat and Christian Democrat supporters in Bonn to mobilize for the first 6,000 volunteers this summer before the Geneva summit. He said urgency is needed to show NATO commitment and deter Soviet attempts to divide the West, signaling possible push to pass the Blitz Law without constitutional amendments amid opposition and a looming parliamentary showdown. Defense Minister Theodor Blank warned no expansion beyond 6,000 volunteers would occur until permanent military laws are in place.
