NRC proposes 5000 dollar penalty for radioactive waste truck
The NRC staff seeks a 5000 dollar fine against TVA for alleged noncompliance with federal rules on shipping radioactive waste. Investigations found a high 600 millirem per hour reading on the truck surface near the Browns Ferry plant, but officials say the issue was confined to one area and posed no immediate health threat. TVA may pay or protest within 25 days of the NRC notice.
