Congress passed a new rent control bill now awaiting President Truman's signature. It preserves existing controls until December 31, 1950, with potential city or town vote to extend to June 30, 1951, while states cannot extend beyond that. Key provisions allow removal by the housing expediter, local advisory boards, state legislatures, or local governments with governor approval, and preserve veterans’ preference through June 30, 1951.
