Governor Lane's fiscal program raises Frederick county's annual state revenues to 1 541 430 08 including 426 571 00 for schools and 158 948 22 for road funds plus 72 621 66 from racing revenues and 55 200 from admissions and recordation taxes.
Delegates at the Presbyterian Senior Conference in Hood College start classwork and elect representatives for the Conference Council and recreation committee. Rev. Earl Franklin Fowler will deliver evening vesper talks on the theme Thy Purpose We Share with a schedule of topics. Hoprescon makes its debut as youths prepare for a nationwide church youth movement. Rev. Keith Custis spoke to conferees before breakfast at Alevyran Hall.
The first of seven historical illustrated lectures on Army operations from North Africa to Germany will be at the State Armory tonight. Lt Colonel Burks outlines the North African campaign with slides and a War Department film. Washington reports Celanese Corporation America and C T O Textile Workers representatives were to renew conferences with Federal conciliators. Two government mediators showed optimism for a settlement of a 24 day strike that has left 10,000 employees idle. Conciliation Commissioner Peter J. Manno noted separate meetings with management and labor spokesmen and Commissioner James Holden.
County officials decided Fredery County falls under a new statewide dog law. Sheriff Anders will enforce it with deputy help as needed. Licenses go through the county treasurer with fines from 20 to 100 dollars for noncompliance. Dogs cannot run at large even when licensed.
A chaotic forecast notes that expected clear and cool conditions turned cloudy with a thunderstorm or two. A late storm skirted the city followed by a second with light showers totaling about .02 inch. Temperatures cooled but should rise to around 85 by afternoon with warmer conditions expected tomorrow.
Elkton mayor Henry J. Mitchell announces strict enforcement of the curfew for those under 16 from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Children may not loiter wander or be idle on streets or public places unless accompanied by an adult. The curfew had lapsed but will now be enforced again. In a separate report from Guam on June 24, nineteen Japanese pleaded innocent to charges tied to brutal wartime experiments that killed 10 unidentified American prisoners at Truk in the Caroline Islands.

John B. Kline, 14, was sentenced to not more than 19 months in the Maryland Reformatory for accessory before the fact to robbery with a deadly weapon after pleading guilty in Circuit Court. The case linked four Frederick youths including Edward 38, Cleveland Grove, and Harry Douglas, who robbed the Frederick night Hotel. Kline aided police from the House of Correction, and the judge cited past juvenile delinquencies alongside his cooperation.
Washington June 24 Republican leaders move swiftly to pass an anti poll tax bill aimed at Southern Democrats who aided the tax measure. Hearings set for next week, with a vote likely before Congress adjourns in July. Some Republicans insist the bill will pass and be sent to the Senate for action.

The Catoctin Country Club tennis team, reformed after a lapse, will play its first match Sunday at two at the local club courts against Baltimore Country Club. Open to public, the event kicks off an interclub league featuring Suburban Country Club Homeland Racquet Club and Mt. Washington. Six singles and three doubles are planned, with former stars Richard Rams Max McCardell E Clapp Jr. among notable players.
Rams 5. Ranneberger, a Kiln area farmer, suffered head lacerations and facial and leg bruises Monday evening when a tractor pulled hay into a barn. He was taken to Frederick Memorial Hospital, then home. He has no memory of the incident, possibly due to heat. the tractor continued, broke through the barn door, and stopped in the yard.
In Washington on June 24 James of Orlando won a college scholarship in a public speaking contest with 31 finalists. Charles Wingrove of Parkersburg and Robert White of Norfolk tied for second while Wingrove represented Maryland West Virginia and the District of Columbia and White represented Virginia Tennessee. A separate note from Santa Ana describes a cruiser inspection as Louise Overell and George Collum face a jury in a murder case involving her wealthy parents.
Recollections of a Frederick county criminal case resurfaced as Chicago and Evanston authorities report George Wilson Blake alias John L. Sheldon in custody on a 1941 county warrant. Blake, a labor organizer with a long record, had been sentenced in 1933 for assault and battery, later released with time off for good behavior.
Major Frank Palacky, among the first Chemical Corps personnel at Camp Detrick, will retire June 30 after more than 35 years in the Army. Honored last week at Edgewood Arsenal with a parade, he has long been known to Frederick residents for his work at the camp. Col. Lloyd E. Felienz attended the review. Palacky, homeward bound to Baltimore, began as an unlisted man and was commissioned in World War I. He helped shape Detrick’s early development and led the officers club at one point.
New flood crests rolled down midwestern streams forcing evacuations in Nebraska Iowa and Missouri. Residents repaired damages and cleared debris as others moved to higher ground ahead of the rising waters.

Camp Detrick will install Military Police for guard duty on June 30. About 15 present civilian guards will be absorbed in other capacities, retaining most staff at the camp. Col. Lloyd E. Fellenz said ten guards will leave for other duties, with about 70 personnel arriving to replace guards and bolster other roles, including firefighting, under the new fiscal year reorganization.
