Long Air Raid Test Here Is Held A Success
An hour long air raid drill in Frederick tested OCD and auxiliaries with 24 four motored bombers across seven eastern states. The test was declared successful though a North Market Street siren malfunction caused local demoralization. Police reported no blackout violations, but many crowds gathered on porches during red alerts and a Culver Lake light caused excitement. The blue and red signals came in rapid succession, and the 21 minute red period was followed by 39 minutes of blue safety warning. County reports said the test was successful beyond the immediate area, with planes over Virginia Maryland and Pennsylvania, though no planes were sighted locally.
