Harrell Sentenced 46 Months In HUD Embezzlement Case
Marilyn Harrell, 46, received 46 months in prison after pleading guilty to stealing about 6 million dollars from HUD. Prosecutors said about 6.6 million from 99 property sales went unreported, while she claimed 5.7 million stolen and over 5 million donated to charity. The judge ordered 3 years probation, 624 hours of community service, 600,000 dollars restitution, and a concurrent one year tax sentence, with no parole eligibility. UM students at risk for AIDS ignore danger
Dr. Karen Kotloff reported at the International AIDS Conference that nearly 9 percent of University of Maryland College Park students, about 297 people, are at high risk for AIDS due to sexual practices or partners. The group includes two infected individuals and features heterosexual, homosexual, bisexual, and intravenous drug user risks. Among high risk students, 30 percent never used condoms and 55 percent increased condom use due to AIDS concerns. many have histories of sexually transmitted diseases and multiple partners.
