Steelworkers Reject Offer In Pittsburgh Conference
In Pittsburgh on June 22 the CIO United Steelworkers flatly rejected U.S. Steel Corp proposal described as unsatisfactory. Leader David J. McDonald said the wage offer amounted to less than five cents an hour. some executives reportedly favored a strike while McDonald cited no names. The union pressed for a settlement by June 30, with talks to resume next week, after a session lasting about 90 minutes.
