Montgomery County Solicitations Permit Plan Fails On Vote
Montgomery County council defeated a plan to create a road solicitation permitting system amid a 6-2 vote. Proponents led by Michael Subin and Issahett argued permits would curb panhandling and aid charities, while opponents including Marilyn Praisner and Nancy Dacek urged enforcement of state law and opposed a permit option. The council deadlocked on another version, and tabling was proposed with absent member William Hanna Jr. expected to attend next week.

Zoning Board seeks to shift home business cases
Frederick's Board of Zoning Appeals favors administrative handling of home occupation requests. Of 12 items at Tuesday's meeting, three were home occupations. Chairman Trunk pressed for talks with the mayor and aldermen as the city pursues a long range land use plan. He noted counties now allow staff handling and cited examples: sewing service export business and a photography business approved. Other actions included fences, a porch enclosure, a parking space for an antique shop, a church sign, one-way drives, and an antenna tower.
