Education Reforms and Rural Zoning Debate Ahead
Local officials and residents debated rezoning a 4 to 16 acre tract along US 15 for agricultural to commercial use. State Roads officials noted 1960 legislative authority and planned highway access could affect land values, while proposals included conditional permits and clearer land-use rules to reduce repeat rezonings.

Teachers Seek 200 Raise For Accredited Staff This Fall
Dr Sensenbaugh urged Frederick County Board of County Commissioners to reconsider a $200 raise for accredited teachers to be effective September through December. He estimated immediate cost at about 528000 and suggested including 120000 in the 1961 budget to sustain the raise. He noted current salaries place Frederick County low in the state and argued the increase would improve bargaining conditions for new graduates. The Commissioners have previously delayed such increases due to budget limits but promised utmost consideration in the 1961 budget.
