Housecleaning Reserves Of Staff Bid Draft Plan By Democrats Is Offered
In Washington June 18 three Democrats urged a housecleaning of the Senate Investigations subcommittee staff led by Sen. McCarthy. McCarthy accused them of clever dishonest and dangerous aims as the conflicting testimony over the Army row continued. McClellan called for immediate action on staff security clearances and a possible house cleaning while Senators Symington and Jackson backed him. Meanwhile at Quantico the Defense Department proposed drafting reserves to form a three million man pool for rapid mobilization with two reserve categories and four months active duty training, under further review by the White House and Congress.
