Food Parley Is Praised By Conference
The regional Mary land Delaware and District of Columbia churches gathered at Hood College for a three day session on A Just and Durable Peace. Dr Mordecai Johnson of Howard University delivered the address on Domestic Foundations of World Peace as seven resolutions were adopted and commissions findings summarized. The group urged support for the Fulbright Revolution and a plan to feed starving people in Europe and Asia while calling for racial equality in church services and economic life. A memorial to repeal the 1924 Exclusion Act and housing aid for Japanese Americans was approved alongside outreach to combat anti Japanese propaganda. Dr Johnson warned against a false unity and warned that a true peace requires clean home governance. He criticized racism and warned of dangers posed by Communism, urging adherence to Hebrew Christian tradition for peace.

Spending Tax Is Advocated For Wartime Inflation
Jude Paul general counsel for the U S Treasury told the wartime Institute of the American Home Association opening session that a spending tax would be needed to fight inflation not a sales tax. He argued a sales tax would be too small to curb inflation and would be regressive hitting low income groups hardest. He estimated a 10 percent sales tax plus 18 percent on essentials would be hard to enforce across 2 700 000 stores and would raise about 1 500 000 000, while a graduated spending tax could deter inflation and be collected via the income tax system.
