Municipal Matters and Street Paving Debate In City
The Mayors board met last night with Mayor George Edward Smith presiding. The city register reported receipts of 59,994.07 and expenditures of 54,715.27 for the year, leaving a balance of 5,278.00. The board set July 23 to consider a vitrified brick paving ordinance requiring five years of maintenance and granite curbs. Turbulent Kretol Stockholders Meeting in Washington
A stormy stockholders meeting of the Kretol Chemical Company in Washington heard charges of fraud and corruption as a receiver had taken control on March 10. The committee reported four meetings with no plan, noting the National Disinfectant Company of New York held much of the stock. Rolle W. Browne outlined a plan to swap old stock for new, while opponents challenged his methods and accused favored treatment. Browne claimed the New Jersey based Rational Disinfectant Company would hold 51 percent of Kretol stock and exchange shares worth 20 dollars each, with 23,498 old shares already bought by the new firm and 14,502 remaining. The meeting approved Browne’s plan by a lone opposing vote, but results hinge on individual transactions.
