Firing of MacArthur Seen Deplorable by Senators
Washington June 17 two Senate inquiry committee members predicted unanimously that Gen Douglas MacArthurs firing was deplorable and indefensible. Senators Sparkman and Smith of the Foreign Relations Committee expected a split on other issues with Republicans backing MacArthurs Korea war program. The joint inquiry into his dismissal and policy plans, now in its seventh week, may end by June 30 after six to ten more witnesses. A decision on Harriman may come this week. Also, 33 St Johns Lutheran Sunday school members attended the Monument picnic in Washington with families named.
